Privacy policy

ExvoxAI is a dictation and transcription app that runs on your Mac and on your iPhone. This page explains plainly what the app does with your data — and what it does not.

Last updated: 13 October 2026

The short version

ExvoxAI collects no personal data. Your recordings, your transcripts and your settings stay on your computer. They are never sent to us, and we have no way of reaching them.

What stays on your Mac

Speech recognition runs entirely on your machine. The transcription models are installed with the app and work without an internet connection. In practice:

No account is required to use ExvoxAI. We ask you for no email address, no username and no password.

What the app does not do

The only cases where something leaves your machine

There are few of them, and you trigger every one. None is on by default, apart from downloading a model you explicitly ask for.

SituationWhat is sent, and to whom
You turn on an online AI service (OpenAI or Anthropic) to summarise or rewrite a text The text concerned is sent to the service you chose, using your own API key. That key is kept in the system keychain and is never disclosed to us. Before the first time anything is sent to a given service, the app shows you what is sent and to whom, and asks for your permission; without it, no text leaves the device, and you can withdraw it at any time in the settings. Those exchanges are then governed by that service's privacy policy, not ours.
You use Ollama for the same feature Nothing leaves your network: Ollama runs on your machine or on a server you administer.
You use your iPhone as your Mac's microphone (“remote microphone”) Your voice and the recognised text travel from the iPhone to the Mac over your local network, between two devices you paired yourself. Nothing goes through the internet and no server is involved: the two devices talk to each other directly.
You download an additional transcription model The app fetches the file from its public host. That request contains no personal data and cannot identify you.

If you turn on no AI feature, stay with the bundled models and do not pair your iPhone, ExvoxAI sends none of your content over the network. The only exchange left is the one described in the next section: the App Store checking whether you are Pro.

What these two services commit to doing with your text

We do not ask you to take on trust a third party we picked for you. Here is what each one states publicly for its programming interface — the one ExvoxAI uses, whose rules differ from those of their consumer apps. Checked at the source on 16 September 2026:

These commitments provide protection equivalent to the one described in this policy. They can change: that is why the date of our check is written above, and why the app asks for your permission before the first send instead of deciding for you.

Purchases and subscriptions

ExvoxAI can be used for free, with limits. The Pro version is bought in the app: a yearly or monthly subscription, or a one-time purchase.

Payment is handled entirely by Apple, through the App Store, with your Apple Account. We never see your payment details, your name or your email address.

To know whether you are Pro, the app asks the App Store on your device, which only tells it the state of your purchase: which plan, valid or not, and until when. This information stays on your device and is sent to no one — not even to us.

To manage or cancel a subscription: the App Store settings on your device, or the “Restore purchases” button in the app.

The microphone, the camera, and other people's voices

The app requests microphone access, without which it could not work. The system asks for your permission the first time, and you can withdraw it at any moment in Settings. The audio is processed on your device and is passed to no one.

On iPhone, the app also requests camera access when you scan a document. Images are read on the phone to extract their text; they are sent nowhere.

One responsibility is yours. The “Meeting” and “Video call” modes also record the voices of other people present — that is their very purpose. Those recordings never leave your machine, but telling the people around you that you are recording, and getting their agreement, is up to you. Depending on your country and context, the law may require it.

Your rights

The General Data Protection Regulation grants you rights of access, rectification and erasure. Here they apply in the most direct way possible: you alone hold your data. The app lets you delete a session, or all of your recordings, from its settings. Uninstalling ExvoxAI and removing its data folder erases everything, permanently.

We cannot answer a data access request for a simple reason: we hold none of your data.

Children

ExvoxAI is not directed at children and knowingly collects no data about them — no more than about anyone else.

Changes

This policy may change as the app evolves. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page. Any substantial change will be noted in the release notes.
